Gabrielle Kona Mwamb-a-Kaj was born on March 11, 1947, in Kolwezi, a mining town in Katanga province (now Lualaba) of the Democratic Republic of Congo. She grew up in a modest but determined family where education was a priority and the values of work, discipline, and solidarity were central. From a young age, she displayed a passion for learning and teaching, interests that would shape her future. She was one of the children of Mathieu Mwamb and Anna Kaj, both from the territory of Kapanga, specifically the chiefdom of Mwant-Yav, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the Lunda Empire rooted in the region.

*Education*
Mama Kona began her education at the Katuba Official Primary School, where she acquired a strong foundation for her academic journey. She continued her secondary education at Saint Agnes School in Kolwezi, earning a diploma in Modern Humanities in 1955. Her academic achievements opened the door to a fruitful career as an educator.

*Professional Career*
After completing her education, Mama Kona joined the Union Minière du Haut Katanga (now Gécamines) in her youth, dedicating several decades to shaping the future of the country as an educator. She played a significant role in the academic and moral development of many young people, preparing them to face the challenges of their time. Her professional journey concluded with her retirement on November 19, 2003.

*Faith and Community Engagement*
A devout Catholic, Mama Kona actively expressed her faith by serving her community through Communautés Ecclesiales Vivantes (CEV). She was also among the founders of the non-governmental organization “ *Mapendo Ya Mungu* ”, which focused on supporting disadvantaged youth. This initiative reflected her deep compassion and aspiration to uplift the next generation.

*Personal Life*
Formerly married to the late Mr. Felix Meiji Moussas, Mama Kona is survived by several children and 19 grandchildren, who are a testament to her resilience and love. She lived in Lubumbashi, where she continued to inspire her family and community. Over the last 17 years, she has played a pivotal role in the lives of her grandchildren in the USA, two of whom have gone on to pursue university education.

Mama Kona passed away peacefully on November 13, 2024 in Prosper TX where she was visiting one of her sons, Mr. Elie Moussas and his family. She will be put to rest in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo.
