Mr. Gabe Nesbitt, age 51, of McKinney, Texas passed away on December 5, 2003. He was born on December 29, 1951 in Wills Point, Texas. At age 7, he moved to McKinney with his parents, Stroud B. and Margaret (Manley) Nesbitt. On April 21, 1979, he married Janet Love in McKinney, Texas. He graduated from McKinney High School in 1971 and in 1977 he graduated from East Texas State University. After graduating from ETSU, he worked as a teacher and coach for the Richardson I.S.D. He came back to McKinney in 1980 to work for Roberts Real Estate, which later became Roberts & Nesbitt Real Estate. In 1994, he bought the McKinney Sports Center, which he ran until 2001. He served on the Planning and Zoning Commission in the 1980’s and 1990’s, later being elected to the McKinney City Council in 2001. He was re-elected in 2003. He was the chairman of the AABC Mickey Mantle World Series and was instrumental in bringing the Series to McKinney in 1996. He was the Commissioner of the McKinney Boys Baseball Association and coached baseball teams in the Mickey Mantle World Series among other leagues. In 1994 until he death, he was the owner of Nesbitt Properties and a member of The Connexion Baptist Church in McKinney. He is survived by his wife, Janet; daughter, Mindi O’Neal and her husband, Steven of McKinney, Texas; sons, Benjamin J. Nesbitt of Norman, Oklahoma and Jonethan E. Nesbitt of McKinney, Texas; granddaughter, Shelby Grace O’Neal; parents, Stroud and Margaret Nesbitt of McKinney, Texas; sister, Rose Anne Mott of Lubbock, Texas; brother, Earl Nesbitt of Coppell, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews and other loving relatives. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, December 8, 2003 at the First Baptist Church in McKinney with Rev. Larry Hartsell officiating. Interment will be at 4:00 PM at the Nesbitt Family Cemetery in Nesbitt, Texas. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 PM, Sunday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home.
