IN LOVING MEMORY

Fredlene "Freddi" Thomson

Sep 23 1933 - Sep 26 2022

Fredlene “Freddi” Thomson passed away at home with family near on Sunday, September 26, 2022.  Born September 23, 1933 in Sudan, Texas to Fred and Edna Johnson. She will be lovingly remembered as a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and friend.

Freddi moved to Littlefield, Texas at the age of 12 and graduated from high school at the age of 16. During high school, she learned to play both the Hawaiian guitar and the electric steel guitar.  She and her band played for the local Littlefield radio station.  Unfortunately, her father (a deacon in the church of Christ) found out her little band was also scheduled to play in a local Honky-Tonk, so he abruptly sold her Gibson guitars. This story was frequently told through the years with great laughter and enjoyment.

Freddi was determined to make a successful life for herself as the first college graduate in her family and worked her way through college. She graduated from Abilene Christian College in 1954 with a degree in education and a minor in business.

After graduation, Freddi moved to Midland, Texas. She was offered multiple jobs, ultimately accepting a position at Magnolia Petroleum (later known as Mobil Oil) as the executive secretary for the Geology Department. She was a perfectionist in all she set out to accomplish and excelled at shorthand and could easily type 90 words a minute without errors.

She met Alexander Thomson on a blind date in Midland and they married in 1956.  Freddi was a survivor of Ovarian Cancer but both she and “Al” were still determined to have a family. Her two children quickly followed.

Freddi was a quiet calm force in all aspects of her life. She loved her family and animals, especially dogs, and they all loved her. She was an excellent cook who always made sure all holidays were celebrated in a special way. No detail of life was left uncared for and this included her lifelong friends that meant the world to her.

Freddi is survived by her son David (wife Mei Jie) and her daughter Dianne.  She is also survived by her beautiful granddaughter Alexandria Mei. She was predeceased by her parents Fred and Edna Johnson and her husband, Al. Freddi was an inspiration to all, her spirit and positive outlook will be remembered by all who knew her.

A private family memorial will be given at a later date.  In lieu of flowers please send a donation to the charity of your choice.
