IN LOVING MEMORY

Fred R. Tischler

Aug 16 1934 - Nov 13 2016

Fred R. Tischler of Plano, TX entered into rest peacefully at home on Sunday, November 13, 2016, from a glioblastoma brain tumor.  He was born in Pilot Point, TX on August 16, 1934 to Fred Tischler and Florene (Jezek) Tischler.

Fred was a native Texan, who graduated from Pilot Point High School in 1951, as well as receiving a BSEE from Southern Methodist University in 1961 and a MSEE from New York University in 1963.  He was employed with Texas Instruments in Houston, Austin and Dallas for nearly forty years as an engineer and engineering manager in the electronic industry before retiring in 1996.  He was fortunate to do design and management work in many new technologies such as integrated circuits, modems, pc computers, printers and some ‘spook’ government electronics.  His work allowed him to receive four patents.

Fred joined the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors Inc. (NAWCC) in 1988, as well as the local DFW Lone Star Chapter 124.  He became very active in the local organization by serving all positions on the board from Jr. Director to President.  He was also a life member of the local chapter.  Fred developed clock repair classes for Chapter 124 and taught locally from January 1994 through June 2014.  He was known for giving lectures on his travels and especially showing pictures of clocks and watches some may never have had the opportunity to view.  Clock repair was his main hobby and he enjoyed lecturing on unusual clocks he repaired or on “The History of Time.”  He lectured for the local chapter, as well as NAWCC Regionals and National Conventions.

He was very active with the NAWCC’s clock repair classes known as the FSW Program and became one of the instructors.  Fred wrote four of the clock repair class material courses and began teaching for the NAWCC in 1998.  He taught 80 classes not only in the Dallas area but also throughout the U.S.

Fred was very active with the NAWCC and became a Silver Star Fellow.  He participated on the NAWCC Board of Directors, as a museum trustee, the NAWCC Nominating and Elections Committee, and on the NAWCC Education Committee.

Fred was also a life member of the NAWCC.

Traveling the world was something Fred and Pam enjoyed especially with other members of the NAWCC.  Another hobby of Fred’s was fishing whether it was in Alaska, the gulf or lakes, and especially with his brother and cousins.

Fred is survived by his wife Pam, of over thirty one years; son, Paul Tischler (Dreena), brother, Garry Tischler (Diane); grandchildren,  Justin Dill (Juliet), Lauren Foresman (Ryan), Lily Parish, Allison, Chanelle, Gabe, Maggie and Bennie Tischler; great-grandchildren, Indigo Dill and Ella and Luke Foresman; other family members,  Scott Lents (son of the heart), Tom Parish, Donna Lipman,  Gerry Tischler (mother of his children); and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

His parents and daughter, Sharon Rose Parish, preceded him in death.

A special “Thank You” goes to Gregory Clopton, his son Greg, Ever Pena, Dr. Issac Melguizo, Jennifer Stewart for their care and kindness during Fred’s illness.  The members of his VITAS Hospice team were also very special, especially Jackie Hudsteth.
