Fred Almon Oberlender of Dallas, Texas passed away July 1, 2022 at the age of 85. He was born on October 9, 1936 to Roy Clyde Oberlender and Lillie Irene (Staerkel) Oberlender in Lucien, Oklahoma. Fred earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Oklahoma State University in 1959. Upon graduation, he moved to Dallas Texas and was employed by Dallas Power & Light until 1965. He then went to work for the Curtis Musgrove Company as a sales representative and later purchased the business and renamed it Fred Oberlender & Associates. Over the next 50 years he grew his business substantially and expanded it to over 6 offices in Texas and Oklahoma.
He was a general aviation pilot for over 54 years and was awarded the Wright Brothers “Master Pilot” award. Fred had a fondness for Bonanza’s and owned several throughout the years. He loved to fly and flew from coast to coast. Fred was also a member of the masonic lodge for over 50 years and received several recognitions during his time of service. He also served in leadership roles for many organizations throughout his life. Fred was a mentor to many people. He was always available and eager to lend a hand. He was a very generous contributor to several organizations and gave with a humble heart.
He married Janice Lee Held on August 7, 1982 in Dallas. Fred and Jan enjoyed life to the fullest. They traveled to wonderful places and truly enjoyed just being together.
He was also a devoted member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Plano, Texas. Fred was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was committed to doing his very best and excelled at life in every aspect. Fred will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved him.
Fred is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 40 years, Janice Oberlender of Dallas, Texas; sons, Rev. Michael Oberlender and wife, Darla of Chickasha, Oklahoma, Mark Oberlender and wife, Kim of McKinney, Texas, Bryan Oberlender and wife, Leslie of Rogers, Arkansas, Steve Oberlender and wife, Lori of Denton, Texas. Rick Heymann of Carrollton Texas and Mark Heymann of The Colony, Texas; grandchildren, Chelsea, Anthony, Richard, Tiffany, Lauren, Anna, Preston, Seth, Carson, Lillie, Laura, Nolan, Walker; great-grandchildren, Annsley, Autumn, Brynlie, Kannon, Creek; brothers, Jim Oberlender of Pittsboro, North Carolina and Gary Oberlender and wife, Jana of Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 10, 2022 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. Rev David Roseberry will be officiating the service. Following the service, a procession will make its way to Ridgeview Memorial Park for a committal service.
The family will receive family and friends during a visitation on Saturday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
