Francis “Frank” Bacon Gilbert, Jr. of McKinney, Texas passed away August 27, 2021, at the age of 85. He was born July 29, 1936, to Francis Bacon Gilbert, Sr., and Sarah (King) Gilbert in New York City, New York. Frank called The Big Island, Hawaii, Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and New York home. He was a 1955 graduate of The Lawrenceville School in New Jersey and earned a bachelor’s degree from Brown University, where he studied finance and chemical engineering. Frank was an investment banker with The Bank of New York and Chemical Bank working in New York and Hong Kong. Frank married the late Sandy (Still) Gilbert on December 26, 1955, in New York City. He was a member of the United States 6 Meter Sailing Team competing in 4 World Championships. As a longtime member of The Seawanhaka Yacht Club, Centre Island, NY, Frank also sailed the Bermuda to Spain, and Newport to Bermuda races amongst others. Frank was an accomplished pilot, who enjoyed flying friends and family up and down the East Coast in his Cessna 182. Frank was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
He is survived by his daughter, Margaret Suzanne “Suzie” Gilbert of Cold Spring, New York; son, Francis B. “Skip” Gilbert, III and wife, Jenifer of McKinney, Texas (formally of Westport, CT); five grandchildren, Mac Horgan, Francis “Fritz” Gilbert IV, Skye Horgan, Austin Gilbert, and Greta Gilbert; and a host of other loving family and friends.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Sandy Gilbert, and parents.
