Frances M. Knickerbocker (nee Burke) died on May 6, 2021 in Allen, Texas at the age of 92.
Frances is survived by her five children, Frances M. Clark, James A. Martin, William P Martin, Carolyn M. Batchelor and Jeanne K. Smith, Peter and Rick Knickerbocker; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Also survived by her brother, Willam P. Burke, of Redmond, Washington. She is preceded in death by her husband, James A. Martin, husband, Peter C. Knickerbocker; son, Thomas E. Martin; parents, William P. and Gertrude E. Burke of Bayside, New York.
Frances was born on November 27, 1928 in New York, New York. She attended college earning a Bachelor’s Degree in English. Frances worked for New York City Public Library and then flew as a stewardess for TWA. She married James A. Martin in 1952. They moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1957 and raised their six children. In 1994 she and old friend Peter Knickerbocker reunited, and they married in 1995. They enjoyed 22 years of marriage until Peter’s demise in 2017.
Frances was a dedicated, loving wife and mother. She was a life-long member of Christ Child Society, an active, dedicated member of the Catholic Church and often volunteered at her children’s school and many other civic events.
A private funeral is scheduled for Friday, July 16, 2021 at 11:15 a.m. at DFW National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Jude Catholic Church, 1515 N. Greenville Ave, Allen, Texas 75002 or Christ Child Society, 502 N. Crooks Rd., Clawson, Michigan 48017.
