Evie Mae Pherigo, age 94, of Howe, Texas passed away September 5, 2009. She was born August 12, 1915 in Parker County, Texas to I.M. and Mollie (Turner) Cruse. On November 12, 1934 she married “George” Dalton Alan Pherigo in Carrizozo, New Mexico. Evie and George hitch hiked from Carrizozo, New Mexico to Durant, Oklahoma shortly after getting married, where they farmed for nearly 25 years. She also worked for Anthony’s Department Stores for several years. She and George relocated to Allen, Texas, where she became co-owner of Allen Dry Goods. She later moved to Howe, with her cousin Mary Ann Harper, where she continued to do her alteration business that originated from her home in Allen, Texas, until her retirement at 89. She was a member of BPW-Business Professional Women’s Association. Evie was very involved in her church. She enjoyed traveling and took several trips with her cousins, at least one trip was taken each year. She is survived by cousins, Paula Judkins and husband, Eddie of Howe, Texas, Mary Harper of Howe, Texas, William Acord and wife, Gail of Merit, Texas, Tom Acord and wife, Bonnie of Greenville, Texas; nieces and nephews, Calvin and Lona Cruse of Glenview, Arizona, Melbourn Clay Havenhill of San Diego, California, Ray and Patsy Kiesling of Torrence, California, Minta Marie Ricketts of Citrus Heights, California, Allen and Mary Blanche Blevins of Portersville, California, Bobby Allen of Tacoma, Washington, Valen Allen of Amarillo, Texas, Ron and Nina Cruse of Alice, Texas, Gary Cruse of Fort Meyers, Florida, George and Bettielou James of Big Lake, Texas, Joyce Huges of Amarillo, Texas, Melvin and Teresa Cruse of Albuquerque, Dean and Virginia Cruse of Waldorf, Maryland, Ed and Easter King of Tupelo, Oklahoma, Dewey and Paula Davison of Fort Pierce, Florida. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 8, 2009, in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel with Brother Roger Tidwell officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m., Monday, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, Allen, Texas.
