Evelyn Tucker

Evelyn Tucker passed away on Friday, February 7, 2020. She had just celebrated her 100th birthday on December 14, 2019. Evelyn was born in Weston, Texas, to Lillie (Bourland) and Thomas William Webster. She grew up in the Celina area and graduated from Celina High School. Evelyn then went on to get her nursing degree from St. Paul’s Nursing School.  After getting her degree, she joined the U.S. Army Nurse Corps and served as a First Lieutenant in France during World War II. After the war, Evelyn married Bryan I. Tucker, also from Celina, on February 7, 1947. They lived in Celina and had two daughters before moving to Irving, Texas, on Christmas Day 1950. While living in Irving, they had a son. Evelyn and Bryan were married until his passing in 1994. She was a loving mother and wonderful homemaker.

In 2010, after turning 90, Evelyn moved to Austin, Texas, to live with her daughter, Mary, and son-in-law, Jerry. She recently received 3,000 cards from every U.S. state and 10 countries in celebration of her 100th birthday.

Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Sue Rodgers of Denton, Texas, and Mary Spence (Jerry) of Austin, Texas, and her son, John Tucker (Staci) of Irving, Texas; her granddaughters, Katy O’Hara (Michael) and Jennifer (J.R.) Arebalo; her grandsons, Chris (Heather) Spence and Daniel Spence; her great-grandsons, Lucas and Logan Arebalo; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters and two brothers.

The family will receive guests during visitation at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 109 South Oklahoma Street, Celina, Texas, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2020. A graveside service will be held at Cottage Hill Cemetery, FM 2478, Celina, Texas, at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2020.
