Evelyn Irene Montgomery, 89, went home to her Lord and Savior on July 10, 2025. She was born to Earl and Elva Newby on December 21, 1935, in McKinney, Texas. She was a cherished wife, beloved mother, our Nana, our matriarch, sister, aunt, the list could go on. She loved fiercely and was fiercely loved. On February 12, 1953, she married the love of her life, Kelly Montgomery, Jr. and spent the next 72 years building their legacy.
For nearly 49 years, she stood with her husband, as a pastor’s wife for the Melissa Church of God. She was an integral part in the women’s ministry, organizing clothing drives and food donations. She truly had a servant’s heart. She served as a Pink Lady for years, accruing more than 6,000 hours and becoming a lifelong member. Every week, she would go to the nursing home with her husband, Kelly. She would go room by room to visit with everyone, bring them a snack, visit and pray with them. She loved every one of them. Our world has dimmed, but Heaven has become that much brighter! She is healed.
Evelyn is survived by her husband, Kelly Montgomery, Jr. of McKinney, Texas; daughter, Kathy Henderson, and husband, Dwayne of Van Alstyne; sons, Mark Montgomery, and wife, Kim, of McKinney, and David Montgomery, of Melissa. Grandchildren, Holly Brooke Huffstickler, and husband, Gunter of Melissa, Chad Montgomery, and Emily Neville, of Prosper, Josh Montgomery, and wife, Amanda of Plano, Ben Montgomery, and wife, Jennifer of McKinney, Chelsea Nos and husband, Matt of McKinney, and Kagan DeJarnatt, and wife, Valerie of Denison; sisters, Wanda Brooks and Carolyn Burk; brother, Larry Newby;14 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Joyce Alexander, Ruth Rosson, Barbara Ketner; and infant brother, Andy Newby.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. The service will also be live streamed at the following link: https://celebrationoflife.tv/blog/evelyn-montgomery. Interment will be held at Ridgeview Memorial Park following the service.
The family will receive guests for a visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday evening at the funeral home.
