IN LOVING MEMORY

Evelyn Joyce Strain-Butler

Jun 19 1951 - Jun 04 2026

Evelyn Joyce Strain-Butler, a resident of Dallas, Texas, passed away June 4, 2026 at the age of 74.  She was born on June 19, 1951, to her loving parents, Arthur Strain and Maebelle (Rhodes) Strain in Mexia, Texas.  Evelyn grew up  and graduated high school from the Mexia school district.  Following high school, she worked for a clothing company before pursuing a career in healthcare. After completing her training, she began working at Children's Hospital in Dallas as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Throughout her years of service, she became an important part of the hospital community and was especially instrumental in supporting the food service department. Her dedication to caring for others and her strong work ethic left a lasting impact on both her coworkers and the families she served. She retired in 2013 after many years of faithful service.

A woman of many talents, Evelyn was a gifted poet who had a remarkable way with words. She filled countless notebooks with her poetry, using her writing to express her thoughts, faith, and creativity. She was loving, caring, and known for her generous heart. Family and friends will always remember her as a wonderful cook, especially for the delicious chicken dishes she enjoyed preparing for those she loved.

Evelyn found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed reading her Bible, spending time with family, and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, particularly when watching Dak Prescott lead the team on Sundays. Above all, she cherished the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of her life.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion through her two daughters, seven grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren, along with many other family members and friends who will miss her dearly and forever treasure the memories they shared with her.

Her kindness, faith, and loving spirit will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Kechia Strain (Cedric), and Tamiko Strain (Tashambry), both of Dallas; grandchildren, Wykivia Bailey (Ideare), Rashad Carter (Leanne), Robert Moore, Delvone Strain, Jakeldrick Strain, Shyke Mack, and Shykedra Mack; thirteen great grandchildren; brother, Vincent Strain; sister, Mildred Johnson (J.J.); and a host of extended family members and friends, who will miss her and cherish her memory.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Butler, parents, Arthur and Maebelle Strain, sisters, Alice Faye, Doris, Betty, and Rose, and brothers, Derrick and Phillip Ray.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 12, 2026, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas, 75013.
