Evelyn Johnson DeBoard

Evelyn Irene Johnson DeBoard, 84, of Allen, TX, went to be with her Savior on September 4, 2017. Evelyn was born April 6, 1933 to Ira Orin and Lenore Hardy Johnson in Hunter, OK. 

She grew up in the Hunter and Kremlin, OK communities and graduated from Kremlin High School and Enid Business College.

She married Robert E. DeBoard in Hunter on August 22, 1953. They made their home in Ft. Smith, AR and Indianapolis, IN while Robert served in the Army.  Later, they made their home in Enid, Stillwater and Tulsa, OK; Atlanta, GA; and Houston and Allen, TX.

Evelyn was a member of First Baptist Church of Allen.  She made her profession of faith at the Hunter Christian Church in April 1945.  She loved volunteering at Memorial City Hospital in Houston and Texas Health Resources in Allen.  She loved piecing quilts and bowling.  Most of all, she took great pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her three children, Brent DeBoard of Dalton, GA; Jana and husband, Doug VanVorhis, of Plano, TX; and Amy and husband, Craig Sutton, of Parker, TX.

Evelyn is also survived by grandchildren, Ryan DeBoard and wife, Kristin, of Mt. Juliet, TN; Christopher DeBoard and wife, Emily, of Bartlett, TN; Zachary Sutton of Las Vegas, NV; Austin Sutton and wife, Megan, of Norman, OK; Lindsey Sutton of Parker, TX; Emory Van Vorhis, Avery Van Vorhis and Sawyer Van Vorhis of Plano, TX. Great-grandsons are Caleb DeBoard and Andrew DeBoard of Mt. Juliet, TN; and great-granddaughter Cayden Holland is from Barlett, TN.  Evelyn is also survived by sister, Velma Schultz, of Enid, OK; sisters-in-law, Lorene Johnson, of Breckenridge, OK; and Virginia Braley of Casper, WY.  She also had many adoring nieces and nephews and extended family of loving friends.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents; sister Bernice Buss; brothers Alvin, Lawrence and Walter Johnson; nephews Earl and Merle Buss; and niece Earlene Johnson Poindexter.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, September 7, 2017, at First Baptist Church in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitaiton from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen.  A funeral service will also be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Anderson Burris Funeral Home in Enid, Oklahoma.  A visitation will be held from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m., Friday evening at Anderson Burris Fuenral Home.  Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in North Enid.
