Evelyn A. Lucero joined our Heavenly Father on January 11, 2019 in Plano, TX surrounded by her family. She was 76.
Evelyn was born to Jesus and Arcita Montoya on August 21, 1942 and was raised in Del Norte, CO with her six siblings. At 18, she moved to Durango and worked at Mercy Hospital for several years before relocating and marrying Antonio M. Lucero in Mountain View, CA.
She spent the next two decades raising her daughters, Renee and Carol, and traveling across the country and abroad following Antonio’s career in the United States Navy. The family settled in Arboles, CO in 1979. Evelyn enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Evelyn was highly regarded for her generous spirit and bright personality and truly left an imprint on the hearts of many. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, wife and friend.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Renee and her husband Larry Burch of Pagosa Springs, CO, Carol Gallegos of Little Elm, TX; grandchildren, Nicholas Gallegos and his wife Christina, Sarah Gallegos and Gabriel Gallegos; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Rosie Marquez and Martha Varela and her husband Armando; brother, Charlie Montoya and his wife Rosie.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Antonio M. Lucero; parents, Jesus and Arcita Montoya; sisters, Stella Cordova, Christina Prado and brother, Rudy Montoya.
The Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 26, 2019 at St. Peter/St. Rosa Catholic Church in Arboles with a Memorial Mass and dinner to follow.
