Eugene "Moose" Barszcz

Eugene “Moose” Barszcz, age 83, of McKinney, Texas passed away May 17, 2011. He was born April 7, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan to Matthew Barszcz and Theresa (Graczyk) Barszcz. Moose grew up in Detroit, Michigan where he attended schools. On November 19, 1982 he married Jacqueline Hiestand in Plano, Texas. Moose was in the Merchant Marines and the U.S Air Force during WWII. He worked for Martin-Marietta in the Titan Missile program and later worked as an engineering specialist for various companies. Moose was an assistant golf pro. He was a 4th Degree in the Knights of Columbus, Council #9903. Moose’s hobbies included judo and he was an avid golfer. He enjoyed scuba diving and archery. Moose was also an Order of the Arrow in the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Jackie Barszcz of McKinney, Texas; son, Gregory Hiestand and wife, Helen of Ft. Worth, Texas and two additional sons; daughter, Krista Medina and husband, Paul of Thornton, Colorado; grandchildren, Mikael and Jason Hiestand; sister, Joyce Ann Hartman and husband, Jerry of Los Angeles, California; nieces and nephews, in California and a host of other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew and Theresa Barszcz. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 20, 2011 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Father Cruz Calderon celebrant. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park, Allen, Texas. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Thursday to pay their respects and to sign the register book. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Thursday evening beginning at 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary service beginning at 7:00 p.m., at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, Allen, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to The St. Michael The Archangel Church Building Fund, 411 Paula Road, McKinney, Texas 75069.
