Esperanza López was born in Puebla, Mexico the first of August 1931, together with her twin sister Rosa. She grew up in the Santiago neighborhood in Puebla with eight sisters and two brothers: Raquel, Daniel, Tere, Socorro, Manuel, Rosa, María Luisa, Carlota, Marta, and Beatriz. She had a happy childhood, playing outside for hours among the fruit trees and helping in the vegetable gardens, and she enjoyed going to school. From an early age, she found that knitting was her favorite pastime. At the age of 16 or 17, she met Ángel Gajón. After a long and beautiful courtship, they were married by civil law on November 6, 1950 and had their wedding on November 12 in the Santiago Church building. The wedding celebration was large with 300 guests attending. The couple enjoyed their honeymoon in Mexico City. Ángel and Esperanza were very much in love and enjoyed only a brief time married to each other during which they conceived 5 children: Esperanza, Ángel, María del Pilar, Alejandro, and Mario Alberto. On August 2, 1966, Ángel Gajón died in an automobile accident while on a trip to Mexico City. Esperanza had to confront life and raise her five children without her partner. Esperanza passed on a legacy of faith in a God who loves us and helps us overcome all obstacles, a legacy of hard work and tireless effort, a legacy of love for family and neighbors, and a legacy of integrity and dignity. We thank God for the privilege of having her in our lives, and we rejoice for her passing into eternal rest alongside her husband Ángel, daughter María del Pilar, son Mario Alberto, and grandson José Alberto. She is survived by her three children: Esperanza Gajón de Merlo, Ángel Gajón, and Alejandro Gajón, 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 3 adoptive grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 12:00 noon, Friday, May 6, 2016 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen. Interment is to follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen. The family will receive friends during a visitation Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Esperanza López Rodríguez, viuda de Gajón, nació en Puebla, México el primero de Agosto de 1931 acompañada por su hermana gemela Rosa. Creció en Puebla, en el barrio de Santiago, a lado de ocho hermanas y dos hermanos, Raquel, Daniel, Tere, Socorro, Manuel, Rosa, María Luisa, Carlota, Marta, y Beatriz. Tuvo una niñez feliz, pasando horas jugando afuera entre los árboles frutales, se involucraba en el mantenimiento de las hortalizas, y le gustaba ir a la escuela. Desde una temprana edad encontró el tejido como su pasatiempo favorito. A la edad de 16 o 17 años conoció a Ángel Gajón y después de un hermoso y largo noviazgo contrajeron matrimonio por lo civil el 6 de Noviembre de 1950 y el 12 de Noviembre se casaron en la Iglesia de Santiago. La celebración de su boda fue en grande, con 300 invitados. Disfrutaron de su luna de miel en la ciudad de México. Ángel y Esperanza estaban muy enamorados y gozaron un corto tiempo de matrimonio en el que concibieron a 5 hijos: Esperanza, Ángel, María del Pilar, Alejandro, y Mario Alberto. El 2 de Agosto de 1966, Ángel Gajón falleció a causa de un accidente automovilístico en rumbo a la ciudad de México. Esperanza tuvo que enfrentarse a la vida sin su pareja para sacar adelante a sus cinco hijos. Esperanza transmitió un legado de fe en un Dios que nos ama y nos ayuda a superar cualquier obstáculo, un legado de trabajo y esfuerzo incansable, un legado de amor a la familia y al prójimo, un legado de rectitud y dignidad. Damos gracias a Dios por el privilegio de tenerla en nuestras vidas y nos regocijamos por su entrada al descanso eterno a lado de su esposo Ángel, hija Maria del Pilar, hijo Mario Alberto, y nietecito José Alberto. Le sobreviven sus tres hijos, Esperanza Gajón de Merlo, Ángel Gajón, y Alejandro Gajón; 11 nietos; 11 bisnietos; y 3 nietos adoptivos.
