Funeral services for Ernie Lee Thorp, 97 year old Leonard resident, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday July 29th at the First Baptist Church of Leonard. Rev. Denny Gorena, Rev. Ted Eaton and Rev. Morris Robbins will officiate. Burial will be in the Leonard Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 6 until 9 p.m. Wednesday July 28th at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel at Leonard. Mr. Thorp was born January 11, 1913 in Hunt County at Dulaney, Texas. His parents were Lewis Gideon and Mattie Bell Burks Thorp. He married Lydia Edna Isham February 2, 1935 at Denton, Texas. He was a farmer and a member of the First Baptist Church of Leonard where he served as a deacon and usher for many years. He was also an A.S.C.S. Committee Member for many years, a charter member of the Hickory Creek Water Board and a former member of the Leonard I.S.D. School Board. He passed away Monday July 26th at the Leonard Manor. He is survived by his wife: Lydia Thorp of Leonard; his son: Frankie Gene Thorp of Celeste; his daughter: Linda Lee Bowling of Plano. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and special friend and caregiver, Jackie Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter: Evelyn Aleta Bates; 3 brothers: Eddie Alvin Thorp, Austin Thorp and Willie Thorp and 4 sisters: Lela Little, Ethel Sims, Ola Burks and Callie Recer.
