On July 22, 1955, Ernestina (Tina) Jones, a beautiful bouncy baby girl was born to the late West Jones and Mattie Anderson Jones – third daughter of six children. She departed her life on Friday, February 19th at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas. At an early age, she confessed her life to Christ and was baptized at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church, French Camp, Mississippi. Later in life she joined First Baptist Church of Hamilton Park under the leadership of late Senior Pastor Dr. J. L. Foster. She was a faithful Christian and a strong believer in Christ.She graduated from Ethel High School in May 1974. After High School she attended Alcorn State University, Lorman, Mississippi where she received a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Sociology/ Social Work. During her years at Alcorn, she was crowned Miss Block and Bridle in 1975 for the Agriculture Department. She was involved in various clubs and organizations including the Social Science Club and Sociology Club. She was crowned Miss Senior in 1976. Her professional career started in Monroe, Louisiana as a Social Worker for Young Women Christian Association (YWCA). She later worked for Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) as an instructor. She later moved to Dallas, Texas for a better opportunity and worked as a Counselor for West Dallas Housing for battered women. She also worked for many years as a counselor for The Family Place. She was an entrepreneur who started her own antique shop, The Queen’s Cottage, and worked nearly twenty years as a Director for the Housing Crisis Center. She also owned an online business, Queen’s Travel. She was working at Dallas County when she departed her life. Tina enjoyed life by traveling, home decorating, volunteering, collecting antiques, and helping the disadvantaged. Most of all she enjoyed time with her family and close friends. In 1972, she met the love of her life Floyd Erving. They were united in Holy Matrimony on December 3rd, 1975 and to this union, two beautiful daughters were born, Amy Nicole and Brittany Clinique.
She leaves so many people to cherish her memory and to continue her legacy including a devoted and loving husband, Floyd Erving; two daughters, Amy Erving Robinson (William) of Hammond, Louisiana and Brittany Erving Rushing (Matthew) of Arlington, Texas; her grandchildren, Taylor, Zipporah, Mariah, and Sinai Robinson; two brothers, Wesley Jones (Regina) of Richmond, Virginia; Hubert Jones (Jean) of Ethel, Mississippi; three sisters, Bettye Mallett and Ida (Paul) Eiland both of Monroe, Louisiana; and Hilda Hoston of Wylie, Texas.
She also leaves to cherish three sister-in-laws, Carrie Sullivan (Terrance); Annie Warren (Melvin); Aslean Triplett (Erwin); one brother-in-law, Jerry Erving (Tracy) and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 25, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Hamilton Park in Richardson, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Wednesday evening, February 24, 2016 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 27, 2016 at The Winter’s Funeral Home, 325 Finwick St., Kosciusko. Interment will be follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Kosciusko, Mississippi.
