Ernest A. “Sonny” Mahard passed away on October 22, 2015 at the age of 89. He was born on December 15, 1925 to Ernest Andy Mahard, Sr. and Betty Nelson Mahard in Prosper, Texas. Sonny proudly served his country in the United States Army in World War ll. He built a small family business, the Mahard Egg Farm, into a multimillion dollar business with over eight million chickens. Sonny expanded the business into cattle, sheep, hogs and real estate development. He married Marta Cargill on August 17, 2006. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Prosper. Sonny was most generous to those in need and supplied thousands of eggs to many organizations such as City Care for the homeless in Oklahoma City, OK. He was a recipient of the Masons sixty year pin.
Sonny is survived by his loving wife of nine years, Marta Mahard of Frisco, Texas; a daughter, Mary Marguerite Mahard of McKinney, Texas; a son, Ernest Andy Mahard III and his wife Linda Railsback Mahard of Prosper, Texas; grandchildren, Emily Ann Van Derlinden of Flower Mound, Texas, Rebecca Elizabeth Mowen of Quincy, Illinois, Barry Randall Borchardt of Whitesboro, Texas, Blair, Shelby Leigh and Kaitlin Mahard; great-grandchildren, Lyla Grace Borchardt and Kendall Van Derlinden; and his faithful companion (dog) “Jacque”.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Leigh Mahard, in 1999, father, Ernest Andy Mahard; mother, Betty Nelson Mahard; and sister, Eula Mahard Lynn.
A celebration service will be led by Ordained Ministers, Larry Bross & Cynthia Huffmyer at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel in Allen, Texas. Interment will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Prosper, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Monday evening, October 26, 2015 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
