Emilio “Leo” Rivera of McKinney, Texas passed away on May 1, 2020 at the age of 59. He was born December 10, 1960 to Emilio and Maria Guadalupe Cristerna Rivera in El Paso, Texas. Leo grew up in Dallas, Texas where he graduated from Adamson High School in 1979. He joined the Air Force where he proudly served for four years. Leo received his bachelor in electronic engineering technology from Devry Institute. He married Shirlee Ann Bekendam on February 23, 1985 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Leo worked for MCI, General Dynamics, Nortel and Ericsson as an engineer. He enjoyed playing softball, basketball with his brothers-in-law, watching the Dallas Cowboys, coaching his children in sports and most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a long-time deacon at Cottonwood Creek Church in Allen, Texas and he enjoyed serving local communities and going on mission trips to Mexico.
Leo is survived by his loving wife of thirty-five years, Shirlee; children, Amanda Kennedy and husband, Dylan of San Diego, California, Martin Rivera of Los Angeles, California, Lena Kelley and husband, Graham of Santa Clarita, California and Millie Sakai and husband, Leo of Lynchburg, Virginia; granddaughter, Memphis June Kelley; mother, Maria Guadalupe Cristerna of Dallas, Texas; brother, David Rivera of Dallas, Texas; nephew, Zach Rivera; niece, Andreah Rivera; and a host of other loving in laws, nephews, nieces and other loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Emilio Rivera and his sister, Amanda Rivera.
