Ellen Marie Beekman was born September 29, 1928, in Queens, New York to the late Edith Mae and Jacob G. Govan. She departed this life on April 24, 2017 in Frisco, Texas.
Ellen attended Flushing High School in Flushing, New York then continued to work as a typist in various places and eventually became a copywriter for Sears and JCPenny before retiring. She enjoyed traveling and reading novels. She will be remembered for her outgoing personality. Ellen loved stopping to talk to people.
Ellen is survived by her three children, Tracey Beekman, Benita Crossen and her husband, Bruce and Roy Beekman; eight grandchildren, Shonda, Rakim, Danielle, Demond, Ambere, Christopher, Troy and Kyle; ten great-grandchildren, Jamel, Shalah, Rashuana, Erin, Dashaun, Tasheen, Raine, Tyra, Tayla and Tyasia; eight great great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Francine Wynn; numerous other family members and a host of friends.
Ellen is preceded in death by her husband, Peter Beekman; daughter, Doreen Beekman; sisters, Frances Turner, Arline Govan and Doris Govan; parents, Edith and Jacob Govan.
A Remembrance Gathering will be held at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 8520 Main Street, Frisco, Texas 75033 on Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
