Ellen Louise Bird

Ellen Louise Bird Passed away on June 24, 2023, at the age of 88 in Prosper, Texas. She was born in Memphis, TN on December 30, 1934, to Joe and Marie (Haddad) Saig of Earle, Arkansas.

After graduating from Earle High School, Ellen attended her Freshman and Sophomore years at Stephens Women’s College in Columbia, MO. She then transferred to the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where she pledged Tridelta sorority and completed her Junior and Senior years, graduating with a degree in Speech Therapy.

Upon completing her college years, Ellen made her way to Dallas, TX. where she worked as a speech therapist assisting and helping young students within the DISD.

While in Dallas, Ellen was introduced to the love of her life, Albert D. Bird, a young dentist from Childress, TX. After 3 years of long-distance dating, the couple married on Oct. 4th,1959, in Memphis, TN. The Birds spent the next 37 years making Childress, TX “home” while being blessed with two children, Tony and Lisa.

Ellen loved being a wife and mother. She was a long-time member of the Women’s Department Club and Modern Homes of Childress, TX. She was also an active member of the First Presbyterian Church.

In 1996, Ellen and Albert decided to “retire” to McKinney, TX. They found faith and fellowship as members of the First United Methodist Church of McKinney. In 2009, the Birds celebrated 50 years of marriage before Albert passed away in 2010.

Ellen is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Albert Bird and brothers, Emil “Joe” Saig and Frank Saig.

She is survived by her son, Anthony “Tony” Bird, his wife Angie of Austin, TX; daughter, Lisa (Bird) Hamilton and husband Robb of Celina, TX; granddaughter, Morgan Hamilton of Dallas, TX, grandson, Barrett Bird of Austin, TX; sister-in-law, Linda Saig of Millington, TN and her two children Phyllis Saig Baker and J.D. Saig.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, June 30, 2023, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow-Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
