Jun 18 2009
Elizabeth “Lisa” Barlow Nelson, age 40, went to her heavenly home on June 18, 2009 following a lengthy and heroic battle with cancer. Lisa was born on October 22, 1968 in Cleveland, Mississippi and graduated from Pearl High School with honors including BETA Club and band member for six years. She received an Associates degree from Hinds Community College and served her country proudly in the United States Air Force for five years as an Avionics Technician. Lisa leaves a wonderful legacy for her daughter, who was her pride and joy, as she was an outstanding, loving and wonderful “hands-on” mom; always thinking of others even as her own health failed. She has a great sense of humor and a zest for life as well as a quiet faith in her heavenly father. She grew up in the United Methodist Church and was active in the youth program including becoming a representative to the Annual Conference. Lisa has been actively involved in the United Methodist Church of McKinney for five years as a volunteer in the children’s programs. She has also been very active in volunteering at Valley Creek Elementary where her daughter attends.
She is survived by her husband of ten years, Roger Nelson of McKinney, Texas; daughter, Destiney Nelson of McKinney, Texas; step-son, Nathan Miller of Florida; parents, Joe and Virginia Barlow of Mississippi; sister, Amy Little and husband Hugh of Mississippi and a host of other loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at First United Methodist Church, 315 N. Church St. in McKinney, Texas, with Rev. Tommy Brumett officiating. Interment will be at Collins Cemetery in Collins, Mississippi. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., on Monday, June 22, 2009, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home.
