She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dr. David Reagan and her two daughters, Ruth Ann Reagan of Ft. Worth, Texas and her husband, Robert, and Rachel Houck of Princeton, Texas and her husband, Leo. Other surviving family members include three grandchildren and two great grandsons. The grandchildren are Reagan Sofia and her husband, Joseph, of Wylie, Texas; Faith Lauren Smith of Dallas, Texas; and David Houck of Round Rock, Texas. Her two great grandsons are Gabriel and Michael Sofia of Wylie, Texas.
Ann is also survived by her two best friends and former teaching partners, Lois Lindsey and Jeanne Marie Thomas.
Ann was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 1941 in Dallas, Texas. Her father, who was a medical doctor, served in the Army Air Force during World War II and was stationed at various air bases in Texas during the war. After the war, her parents moved to Waco, Texas where her father opened a radiological clinic. She graduated from Waco High School in 1959, at which point she enrolled in Baylor University and began working on a college degree in education.
Her parents were members of the Church of Christ, and that’s where she met her husband-to-be when she was 15 years old. She and David were married in 1960 and moved to Boston where David attended a Harvard graduate school. Ann took classes at Boston University until the birth of their first daughter, Ruth, in December of 1961. A year later, also in December, she gave birth to their second daughter, Rachel, while David was teaching at a school in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Upon their return to Texas in 1963, David began teaching at Austin College in Sherman, and Ann picked up where she had left off with her college education. She graduated from Austin College in with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. Later, she earned a Master’s degree in Education from East Texas State University.
Ann spent 30 years of her life teaching the first grade in the Plano and Allen, Texas school districts. She loved children, and she delighted in teaching them the two most valuable skills of their lives — reading and writing. Ann also loved animals, and she always had a miniature dachshund.
Most of all, Ann loved Jesus, and she was a very serious student of God’s Word. She literally wore out several Bibles. Ann was also a prayer warrior who spent much time in prayer for her students and fellow teachers.
Ann’s favorite hobby was cooking. She collected recipes and developed a cooking curriculum for children that was designed to teach them mathematics and chemistry in addition to culinary techniques.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at the Brookhaven Church in McKinney, Texas. A private graveside service will be held at the Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, following the funeral service.
