Elbert Lee Slate, born February 20, 1933, went to be with the Lord September 2 2016. Elbert was born on a farm near McKinney, Texas. He went to a country school in Princeton, Tx for primary education and attended Princeton High School.
He married Patricia (Inman) Slate on November 18, 1950. They have two sons: Donnie Slate and wife Ann of Forney, Tx, David Slate and wife Leslie of Johnstown, Co. They have three grandchildren: Julie Gropp and husband Kyle of Cortez, Co, Christi Slate of Johnstown, Co, and Adam Slate of Ft. Collins, Co. They have four great grandchildren: Kaleb, Cole and Landon Gropp of Cortez, Co and Lily Clayton of Johnstown, Co., as well as many nieces and nephews.
Elbert liked to travel and camp all over the United States when the boys were home. He enjoyed collecting petrified wood and rocks from his travels. He worked as a body man for thirty seven years, painting and repairing automobiles. He worked in Mckinney, Terrell and all over Dallas. He loved cars and bought a new one each year for many years. He loved his Pomeranian dogs. After retirement, he and his wife Pat enjoyed garage sale shopping and fixing up their home. They even lived in Lake City, Colorado for a while to fix up an apartment complex there. He was a member of Living Hope Baptist Church in Garland, Tx and attended as often as his health would allow.
He was preceded in death by: his parents Jessie and Mary Slate, brothers Ezra, Amel and Lonnie Slate and Clarence Dawson and sisters Madeline Blurton, Jessie Love, and Mary Hulon.
A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 7, 2016 at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Tx. The family will receive friends during a visitation being held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday evening at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas
