Edward Stanley Opat, age 82, of Frisco, Texas, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2018, in Denison, Texas. He was born on February 9, 1936, in Passaic, New Jersey, to Walter and Mary (Timko) Opat. Edward married Phyllis Susan Chudzik on September 12, 1970, in Clifton, New Jersey. Having earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering from Fairleigh Dickinson University, Ed worked for Panasonic in Secaucus, New Jersey, for over 25 years as an executive in their Car Stereo/Mobile Electronics department. In his spare time, you could always find Ed working around the house fixing something, tinkering in his shop, or (later in life) on the golf course driving balls or marshalling. Above all things, Ed had a great love for his family and always put family first. He was also a lifelong and faithful Catholic, and a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Frisco.
Edward is survived by his daughter, Andrea Gowans and her husband, Robert; his son, Chris Opat and his wife, Meredith; grandchildren, Hugh Gowans, Lauren Gowans, Leo Gowans, Isabel Opat, and Gabriel Opat; siblings, Henry Opat and Frances Opat-Batlan and their respective families in New Jersey.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Mary Opat, his wife, Phyllis Susan Opat, and his grandson, Jed Gowans.
A Word Service will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 8000 Eldorado Parkway, Frisco, Texas 75033, on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at 11:00 AM with Msgr. Larry Pichard presiding. Inurnment will follow at Ridgeview West Memorial Park in Frisco.
