IN LOVING MEMORY

Edward James McAllister

Feb 24 1946 - Aug 13 2025

Ed McAllister passed away in McKinney at the age of 79.

Ed was born February 24th, 1946 to the late Anne and John McAllister in Chicago, Illinois. He was the ultimate middle child, having two older and two younger siblings.  His family moved to Algonquin, Illinois to a small house on the Fox River where he attended Catholic schools and started his first garden.

1968 was a big year. He met and married his wife Kathie, had his first child Coleman and got his job at Aetna where he worked for 35 years.  Ed and Kathleen were married for 46 years until her death in 2014.  They had two sons Coleman and Ian, who both live in the Des Moines, Iowa area, and a daughter April, who lives in McKinney, Texas.

In 1970, Aetna transferred him for the first time to Grand Rapids, Michigan.  His Mom, and his 2 younger brothers Jim and Bob eventually followed him to Michigan. Ed ended up accepting transfers all over the United States living in Des Moines, St. Louis, Hartford, New Orleans and finally Dallas where he retired.

Ed and Kathie ran a store on the square in McKinney for 10 years before they retired from that too. After Kathie passed, he devoted his free time to volunteering with St Vincent de Paul with St Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church.

Ed adopted the sports teams in Dallas, talking to the ambulance drivers after he broke his hip about the Dallas Stars chances in the playoffs.

He is survived by his brothers Bob and Jack;  his three children, and nine grandchildren, CJ, Ed, Marti, John, Peggy, Danny, Janey, Rose and Bob.  He has one great-grandchild Ellis with another on the way that he was delighted to find out about.  He is preceded in death by his parents Anne and John, sister Marianne, brother Jim, and wife Kathie.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St Vincent de Paul or Dallas Area Parkinson Society would be appreciated.

A funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, 110 St Gabriel Way, McKinney, Texas, 75071.

The family will receive guests during a visitation from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. (Rosary Service beginning at 6:30 p.m.) on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
