Edith Merle Hood, age 79 of Midland, Texas passed away peacefully in Prosper, Texas on March 7, 2004. She was born in Halletsville, Texas on September 24, 1924 to Edward A. and Winnie (Davis) Hood. Edith enlisted in the U.S. Navy, December 6, 1944 and served her country as a Warrant Officer in Communications until her retirement, December 6, 1984 from the Armed Forces at which time she worked and later retired from the U.S. Postal Service. She is survived by nieces, Debbie Tolleson and husband Dan and children, Chad, Jessica and Chase of Prosper, Texas, Carol Wright and husband David of Tampa, Florida; nephews, Doug and wife KeithAnn Shapiro, M.D. and children, Camille and Jake of Rancho Santa Fe, California, Greg and wife Betty Shapiro of Austin, Texas, David Parr and wife Andrea of San Antonio, Texas; and her brother-in-law, Marvin L. Shapiro, Houston, Texas She is preceded in death by her parents Edward A. Hood and Winnie Davis Hood and one sister Lee Hood Shapiro. Graveside services are under the direction of Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, Frisco, Texas will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, March 11, 2004 at Fairview Cemetery in Midland, Texas with Pastor Bill Skaggs officiating. A visitation will be held at the graveside one hour prior to the service.
