Edgar Lee Combest

Edgar Lee Combest was born April 10, 1928 in Sherman, Texas to parents Edgar and Edna Combest. Ed accepted our Lord, Jesus Christ, at the tender age of 8 at Rosemond Baptist Church of Anna. He was Baptized in Stiff Creek at Melissa, Texas. Ed entered the U.S. Army at age 17, and proudly served his country in a 3 year tour of duty that took him all over the United States and Europe. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, an Occupation Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. After his tour of duty, Ed ventured across the Red River into Oklahoma, and there he met his lovely bride, Bonnie Duckworth. The two married December 31, 1949 in Hollis, Oklahoma and they were married 61 years at the time of his passing. The couple moved to Sherman to begin their lives together. It was in Sherman where all three of their children were born; Larry Joe born in 1951, Linda Jean born in 1954 and Steven Dale born in 1957. At all times he was a devoted husband and loving father. Ed worked as an electrician, carpenter and mechanic. The family moved to Plano, Texas in 1959, and Ed became a Land Developer & Custom Home Builder, a passion which he pursued until he retired in 1985. The family attended church at First Baptist Church in Plano, and Ed served as an Usher and a Sunday School Teacher. The family moved to Princeton, Texas in 1965. There the family was active members at Faith Baptist Church. There Ed was an ordained Deacon and volunteered for many committees. Ed faithfully served his Lord and was an excellent provider for his entire family. Ed joined the Masonic Lodge in Plano and transferred his membership to the Princeton Lodge #1436 and the Princeton Eastern Star #1126. Ed is survived by his wife of 61 years, Bonnie; children Linda Shaw and husband, Jeff, Steve Combest and wife, Kathie; grandchildren Alicia O’Mary and husband, John, Bryttni Blackwell and husband, Jeremie, Brad Morrow and wife, Colleen, and Steven Joe Combest; great-grandchildren Lauren Blakely, Abagail Blackwell, Garrison Blackwell, and Logan Morrow; sisters Edith Barnett, and Peggy Minihan and husband, Pat; brother Billy Combest, and wife Freda along with several cousins, nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his son Larry Joe Combest, wife Pat, and their daughter Kristi; his parents, Edgar and Edna Combest, his brothers Alton Combest, wife Lorna, and Weldon Combest and his sisters TV Stroud and husband, George, Lois Barnett, and husband, John; and a beloved brother-in-law Jay Barnett along with several cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., at First Baptist Church, in McKinney, Texas. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Tuesday to pay their respects and to sign the register book. The family will receive friends during a visitation Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home.
