Mr. Earl S. Burgess, age 72, of Plano, Texas passed away on February 8, 2004, in Plano. He was born on November 4, 1931, in Grand Saline, Texas to James Manuel and Dovie (Maxfield) Burgess. He married Elizabeth Jewel Hitt in 1956. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He retired from Texas Instruments after 36 years of service. Mr. Burgess was ordained as a minister in October 11, 1964 and served in several churches which includes, Friendship Baptist in McKinney, Texas, Shiloh Baptist in Wylie, Texas, Westminster Baptist Church in Westminster, Texas, Second Baptist Church in Plano, Snow Hill Baptist Church in Blue Ridge, Texas, and Branch Baptist Church in Princeton, Texas. He is a member of the Meadows Baptist Church in Plano. He is survived by his wife, Jewel Burgess of Plano; sons, James Stanly Burgess and wife, Lynn of Lucas, Texas and Richard Earl Burgess of Plano; grandchildren, Maggie, Mindie, Micah, Melodie and Bo Burgess; brothers, Gerald Burgess of Tyler, Texas and James Vernon Burgess of Mineola, Texas; sisters, Adene Lowe of Grand Saline and Glynda Ashe of Greenville, Texas; sister-in-law, Evelyn Burgess of Tyler, Texas; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Burgess was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack Burgess and sister, Naomi Burgess. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Tuesday, February 10, 2004, in the Meadows Baptist Church 3001 Los Rios Blvd. Plano, Texas 75074. Interment will be at 3:00 PM Tuesday at Sandflat Cemetery in Grand Saline, Texas. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Meadows Baptist Church Building Fund.
