In loving memory of a dedicated Family Practitioner, Luis Mendoza Blando, MD peacefully passed on November 16, 2023 in McKinney, Texas at the age of 86. He devoted 60 years of caring for others with compassion and expertise. His legacy of healing and kindness will be cherished by all who were fortunate to have known him and been in his care. His presence will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the warmth of shared moments.

He was born to Jose and Concepcion Mendoza Blando on August 19, 1937 in Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines. He graduated from University of the Philippines College of Medicine in 1962 and immediately started his medical practice in New Jersey and briefly served as Lt. Commander in the US Navy in Port Hueneme, CA. He opened his Family Practice in Oxnard, CA in 1985 and devoted caring for the community until his retirement in 2020.

Luis’ spirit lives on in the joyous echoes of his jokes and riddles, a testament to the lightheartedness and humor he brought into the lives of others. He is a sports enthusiast at heart, having played basketball in high school and college at the University of the Philippines. He also found joy in modern and classical music as well as the nostalgia of Filipino folk songs.

His quiet demeanor spoke volumes. A man of few words, his silent strength left an indelible impression on those who cherished the depth of his character.

Survived by his devoted wife, Filonila he leaves a legacy of love embraced by his children: Lisa, Mark and Katie, stepchildren Alyssa and Gigo, Marion, Gayle and Bob and cherished grandchildren, Grace, Lily, Georgia, Joseph, Katria and Eddy, Micah, Alee, Ciara, and Nola. He also leaves behind his siblings, Conchita, Josefina, Carmen and Cleonico, Virgilio, Alejandro and Celia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. The service will also be live streamed at the following link: https://celebrationoflife.tv/blog/dr-luis-m-blando
