IN LOVING MEMORY

Dr. Kamalsingh Magansingh Rathod

Aug 01 1951 - Sep 06 2025

Dr.  Kamal Rathod passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025, at his home in Sherman, Texas surrounded by his family and friends.  He was born on August 1, 1951, in Himmatnagar, India, son of Prabhaben and Magansinh Rathod.  Dr. Rathod grew up in Ahmedabad, where he attended St. Xavier’s College and N.H.L. Medical School.  Upon receiving his medical degree, he emigrated with his wife to the United States in 1975, and settled in Sherman in 1983.

Dr. Rathod built a successful cardiology practice in North Texas, where he practiced for over thirty years and was affectionately known throughout the community as “Dr. K.”  He was instrumental in establishing interventional cardiology at Wilson N. Jones Hospital, and literally strengthened the hearts of his patients.  Dr. Rathod was known as a healthcare provider who was meticulous in explaining the disease process, as well as kind and caring in his bedside demeanor.

Dr. Rathod met his wife of fifty years, Dr. Minaxi Rathod, in 1969 during the first days of medical school.  He immediately knew she was his soulmate and partner, and proclaimed to his friends that he would marry her.  He spent the next years courting Minaxi, which involved visiting her at her family home each evening and tutoring her siblings such that they called him the “Professor.”   The couple married in 1975, and were inseparable ever since.  Together, they raised two children, Veeral and Anar.  Many of his family’s fondest memories are of traveling around the world, attending Carlos Santana concerts, and reciting his jokes to lift everyone’s spirits even during the most difficult of times.

Dr. Rathod was a magnetic personality, who brought levity, warmth, and humor to every interaction.  Those around him were drawn to his calm and gentle nature.   He enjoyed photography through which he captured the spirit of his family and friends through a camera lens.  He loved his family tenderly and worked tirelessly to build a foundation and legacy for his children and grandchildren.  He dreamed for a better life for his children and future generations and, in doing so, was meticulous and intentional in raising his children and planning for his family.

During his later years, he endured Parkinson’s Disease, but he never allowed his health to prevent him from attending social gatherings, traveling to spend time with family and friends, and indulging his grandchildren.  As he struggled physically with mobility, his wife ensured he never missed time with family, taking him to Kenya, England, India, and throughout the United States these past few years.

Dr. Rathod is survived by his wife; children, Veeral (Priya), Anar (Sanil); six grandchildren, Aria, Lyla, Anya, Zane, Shay, and Asher; nephews, Umang and Anand.  He was fortunate to be loved by dear friends, Kirit and Usha Patel, and their children, Parul (Vijay) and Neal.  The family extends their deep gratitude to Dr. Bharathy Sundaram for her care for Dr. Rathod.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
