Dr. Carol Ann Hunter Wichmann

Jul 07 1937 - May 23 2025

Dr. Carol Ann Hunter Wichmann of McKinney, Texas, passed away on May 23, 2025, at the age of 87. She was born on July 7, 1937, in Abilene, Texas, to Thomas Bert and Reba (Crowley) Chapman. Carol and her younger brother, Terry, grew up in Abilene with Reba and Bert and early on, they were taught to value both education and family. Bert owned several businesses including a car dealership and Reba was a school librarian. When Bert was elected as County Commissioner in Abilene, the family became actively involved in his campaigns. Carol remained involved in political campaigns and fundraising throughout her life. Her parents were very influential in the lives of Carol’s children, Julie and Matt. Carol dedicated her life to education and serving her community. She earned her undergraduate degree from Baylor University, a master’s degree from the University of Texas Permian Basin, and a doctorate in Educational Administration from Texas Woman’s University. She was elected President of the School Board in Big Spring, Texas and served in this role as her children were growing up. Carol and her former husband, Dr. Wallace Hunter, ensured that their children knew the value of continuous learning and reading. These values have been passed on, and Julie serves as a veteran teacher while Matt is a business owner. Carol’s love of language, learning, and reading were an integral part of raising her children and grandchildren. Both Carol’s children feel a great deal of appreciation for the values that Carol’s parents, and Carol and Wally instilled in them.

Over the years, Carol served in various roles in the field of education, including teaching Latin and History. She returned to work after raising her children and resumed her career as the McKinney personnel director. She was promoted to Principal of McKinney High School. She then moved to Houston and served as Principal of Sharpstown High School. She was revered by teachers, her staff members, and her students. She was a dedicated member of and contributor to the McKinney Education Foundation and an active member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in McKinney. She was a charitable and dynamic member of each of her communities, serving on many community boards and committees. Carol will be remembered by those who knew her for her passion and commitment to education as well as her love of learning.
