IN LOVING MEMORY

Doyle Edwin Moody

Jul 18 1932 - Jul 12 2021

Doyle Edwin Moody, age 88, passed away on July 12, 2021 in McKinney, Texas after complications from a fall.  He was born on July 18, 1932 to Gaither and Goldie (Hudson) Moody in rural Limestone County east of Mart, Texas.  During his childhood years his family moved to Waco where he attended Waco public schools graduating from Waco High.  Doyle then attended Baylor University graduating in 1955.  He was an avid fan of the Baylor Bears for the rest of his life.  In 1953 he married Onetta Renfro Moody.  They were married forty-two years. To this union came two beloved daughters, Deborah Bradley and Terri Murphy.  After his divorce Doyle reconnected with Betty Moore, a long-ago sweetheart, and they were married a year later. They enjoyed traveling and being with friends.  He loved his family and friends.

At the age of fourteen, Doyle began working as a stock boy at Leon’s Cinderella in Waco where he worked until retirement in 1994 except for a two-year stint in the army at Fort Knox. His career included serving as a salesman, buyer and manager of the ladies’ shoe department.  Doyle helped Leon’s Cinderella to become popular with generations of Waco shoppers for it’s high-fashioned shoes, clothing and accessories.  His skills as a ladies’ shoe salesman earned him the Waco Chamber of Commerce Salesperson of the year in 1968.  His reputation as a ladies’ shoe salesman resulted in a Texas Monthly feature article titled “The Prince of Pumps.”  The article told stories of his selling skills and the absolute loyalty of his customers.  Doyle loved his job.

He was a member of Austin Avenue Methodist Church in Waco where he once sang in the choir.  Doyle was a fan of all sports especially collegiate and professional football.  Fall Saturdays were reserved for the Baylor Bears and Sundays for the Dallas Cowboys.  He was faithful during the highs and lows of both teams.  Family gatherings meant dominos, poker and pool.  The games resulted in much laughter and way too many wins for Doyle.

He is survived by Betty Moore Moody his wife of 26 years; children, Debbie Bradley and husband, Jon of Fairview Texas, Terri Murphy of Waco, Frank Jackson and wife, Betty of Royal Palm Beach, Florida, Gary Jackson and wife, Cindy of Prosper, Texas and David Jackson and wife, Susan of Anderson, South Carolina;  grandchildren, Jeff Bradley of Allen, Texas, Kristy Millsap and husband, Kamren of Waco, Texas, Blake Murphy and fiancé, Kendall Wilson of Waco, Texas;  great grandchildren, Jakob and Ashlyn Bradley and Kali Millsap; six step-grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; and brother, Ronald Hudson Moody and wife, Mary Anne of Waco, Texas.
