In Loving Memory of Doug
Douglas Stafford, age 75, passed away peacefully at home on June 21, 2026. A family medicine physician in Dallas for over four decades, Doug cared deeply for his patients and his community, not as an obligation, but as a calling he never set down.
After retiring from medicine, he began a volunteering at the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum, where he served as a docent and later as a docent educator. Guiding visitors of all ages, sharing difficult history, and teaching the importance of being an upstander became his passion and purpose. Both careers were animated by the same conviction in the dignity of every person.
Doug is survived by his wife Loretta, stepson Kevin, daughter-in-law Bené, his three grandchildren Wilder, Harlow, and Archer, and extended family and cherished friends who admired his kindness, steadiness, and lifelong commitment to showing up for others. He was a devoted husband and a granddad who never ran out of energy and never said no to a silly game with the grandchildren. They were the great joy of his later years.
His compassion was never abstract, whether in the exam room, in the museum, or at home. It showed up in small acts of attention and a lifelong refusal to look away from what mattered. He could strike up a conversation with absolutely anyone. He truly believed that he could learn from every person he met, and he always showed up to every conversation with genuine interest.
He will be remembered with deep love by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
