Douglas Whitworth passed away peacefully on October 18, 2019 at the age of 61.
He was born on November 21, 1957 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to Jake and Marilyn Whitworth. Doug grew up in Arlington, Texas. He graduated from Lamar High School in 1976. Doug worked at Six Flags over Texas for 3 years. After graduation, he went to Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas for one year, and later earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Letourneau University in Longview, Texas in 1993. Doug also earned a master's degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas in 2000.
Doug enrolled in the Department of Public Safety training academy in 1982. He was assigned to Floydada, Texas where he started his career as a Texas Highway Patrolman. Doug and Joy lived there for 4 years. He then transferred to McKinney, Texas in 1986 where he would continue his DPS career until his retirement as a Lieutenant in 2012. Doug then went to work for Trinity Industries in Dallas, Texas where he was currently employed.
Doug married Joy Middleton Whitworth in 1982 where they met working at Six Flags over Texas. They were blessed with two children, Bradley Douglas Whitworth and Mallory Joy Whitworth. Doug’s favorite job was being a father to his two wonderful kids. He was so proud of them. Doug cherished the time spent coaching them in baseball and soccer for many years.
He is survived by his mother, Marilyn Whitworth; wife, Joy; children, Bradley and Mallory and her fiancé, AJ Phillips; brother; Wesley Whitworth and wife, Martha and their children, Kristi Berry and her husband, Judson, and Stephanie Whitworth; sister, Kellee Lawrence and her son, Garrett Lawrence and wife, Dani; brother, Steven Whitworth and his daughter, Whitney Jordan; and numerous other loving family and friends.
Doug was preceded in death by his father, Jake Whitworth.
He enjoyed grilling on the patio while watching college football, with his favorite being college game day. Anyone who knew Doug knew that he loved to be social and make lifelong friends. Doug was a great son, brother, husband and father. Above all, he was a great man. Doug would want you to remember him fondly. He is without a doubt in the presence of our heavenly father.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Tuesday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
