IN LOVING MEMORY

Douglas "Doug" Lee Hodges

Oct 11 1952 - Apr 23 2023

Douglas Lee Hodges, age 70, passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2023, in Dallas, Texas, surrounded by his family and friends. After several years of fighting a rare autoimmune disease of the lungs, the Lord delivered him home. He was born in Dallas on October 11, 1952, to his mother, Jean Moffitt, and father, Roy Hodges.

“Doug” attended W.T. White High School in Dallas, Texas, and graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1975 with a degree in business. He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Robin; three daughters: Katherine (James), Chris (Brett), and Allison (Barrett); Three grandchildren: Landry Kate, Colson, and Ellie; two brothers: Matson and David; and his sister, Love.

Doug was a jack-of-all-trades as he worked several years in real estate construction, getting to do what he truly loved: work with his hands to build things for others. In 2000, he turned to business and began working for Hilltop Securities in Dallas. Although Doug walked his whole life humbly, he seemingly came alive as an extroverted social butterfly every day at 10 AM while working alongside his beloved co-workers at Hilltop Securities. He once secured runner-up in a Halloween costume contest as Mr. Potato Head. He treasured every work relationship in his 22 years at Hilltop. He continued to do so well after his retirement in July 2022.

On December 16, 1978, Doug began what he would consider his most excellent adventure when he married his bride, Robin Lucas, in Dallas, Texas, and remained forever hers with every breath until his last. Doug adored Robin and her youthful exuberance from which she approached all manners of life. After two decades living and raising their family in Dallas, Texas, Doug put his hands to use once again for Robin, building them their dream home in Celina, Texas, where they spent many nights on the back porch just enjoying the beautiful Texas sunset in each other’s company. They were jet setters, though, taking cherished trips to Italy, Greece, and throughout the United States. They loved making stops at inns and bed-and-breakfasts that they described as having “character” just to enjoy something new together. Doug being an avid sports fan, spent falls cheering on the Dallas Cowboys and then every summer rooting on his beloved Texas Rangers.

There was never a question that Doug’s life was forever changed when he became “Baba” to his three grandchildren: Landry, Colson, and Ellie. He came alive as Baba and loved spending time with them, whether it was taking joy rides on the ranger, suiting up for the family “Opening Day,” or taking them to Hey Sugar in downtown Celina. There was never a moment Doug wasn’t fully prepared to shower his three grandchildren with love and affection.

No one would be able to replace his greatest love, though, Robin. She was his best friend and the one he described as making him “the luckiest man in the world.” Their most important connection was their faith in Jesus Christ, from which they drew every ounce of compassion, patience, and love for each other, their children, and all they came across. The humility in which Doug walked as a child of God knew no stranger nor person too far gone. Together, Doug and Robin opened their arms, hearts, and homes to so many individuals over the years, rejoicing in the opportunity to share what Jesus Christ had entrusted to them as faithful stewards of grace and servants towards others.

The way Doug Hodges lived as a husband, father, and friend remains an inspiration of the power of Jesus Christ here on earth, for all of us who knew him and remain: his glory and joy. We who remain rejoice in knowing that Douglas Lee Hodges entered the presence of His Lord Jesus Christ and heard those most beautiful words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Well done, Doug, well done.
