IN LOVING MEMORY

Dorothy Lee Mills

Jul 13 1929 - Oct 06 2017

Dorothy Lee Mills, age 88, of Plano, Texas, passed away on October 6, 2017.  She was born July 13, 1929 in Allen, Texas, to Raymond Russell and Verba Lee (Jones) Leach. On December 16, 1949, Dorothy married Harold L. Mills in Allen, Texas at the home she was born in.  Dorothy grew up in Allen where she graduated from Allen High School and played on their girl’s state champion basketball team.  She loved music and in particular old church hymns; she was very artistic, creative and loved to cook family favorites from banana pudding to okra gumbo.  Dorothy and Harold were married for 68 years.  They spent most of that time in pastoral ministries, which in 1967 led to military service in the US Army Chaplain Corps.  As a military family, Dorothy and Harold had adventures traveling the world with their children, two of which graduated from high school in Germany.  One of the hobbies she developed was collecting memories and keepsakes from their travels.  She had a generous heart and loved sharing all she had, although if she gave you one of those “keepsakes", rest assured it came with the stipulation that if you ever got ready to part with it, it was to come back to her!  After a life time of relocations and travels one of her favorite things to do was sitting by the fire in the mornings and drinking coffee.

Dorothy was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Plano, was devoted to her family and friends and was known for having a very deep faith and high moral standards.  She is survived by her husband, Harold L. Mills of Plano, Texas; children, Mike Mills and wife Cheryl of Angleton, Texas, Steve Mills of Blue Ridge, Texas, Judy Hester and husband David of Parker, Texas, Richards Mills and wife Theresa of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sisters, Lorene Smith of Richardson, Texas and Rayme Huskey of Emory, Texas; many nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving relatives and friends.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Russell and Verba Lee Leach; sisters, Edna Earl Nicholson, Maxine Hicks; and brother, Volney Ray Leach.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway N., Allen, Texas 75013.  Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends during a visitation, being held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Saturday evening at the funeral home.
