Dorothy Lee Crosswhite

Dorothy Lee Luco Crosswhite, age 93, of McKinney, Texas, passed away August 29, 2017.  Dorothy was born March 5, 1924, in Hoehn, Texas, to Theodore John and Marie Benkendorfer Luco.  She married Oralen J. “Bud” Crosswhite on August 14, 1948, in Fort Worth, Texas.  Dorothy graduated from the Providence Nursing School in Waco, Texas as a registered nurse.  After graduation, Dot planned to become an Army nurse, but WWII was nearing its end, so she moved to New York City instead where she spent a year working for an eye surgeon.  She then came to McKinney in 1947 to work at the VA Hospital, later nursed and taught nursing at Collin Memorial Hospital, and also nursed at Wysong Hospital in McKinney.  Dot was a longtime member of First Christian Church in McKinney where she served as an elder emeritus, church historian, and was a grandmother to many.

Dot lived life to the fullest, always keeping a sweet attitude and not allowing anything to get her down.  She loved her family, friends, and her church dearly.  She enjoyed reading, writing poetry, baking bread and canning, collecting inspirational quotes, cheering on her Cowboys and Rangers, spending time with her kitty, camping with her family, and gardening with Bud.

She is survived by her sons, Richard Crosswhite and wife, Sandy of Pampa, Texas and Calvin Crosswhite of McKinney, Texas; daughter, Kathleen Anderson and husband, Jim also of McKinney; daughters-in-law, Patricia Crosswhite of McKinney, Texas and Janice Crosswhite of Allen, Texas; grandchildren, Lance Matthews and wife, Lori, Amber Jones and husband, Jason, Erich Crosswhite and wife, Jamie, Zachary Anderson and wife, Erica, Bethany Anderson, Casey Anderson and wife, Kristen, Amy Shelley and husband, Russell, Caleb Crosswhite, and Alicia Crosswhite; twelve great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruby Bostrom of Spokane, Washington and Helen Woolley of Temple, Texas; sisters-in-law, Bobbie Luco of West, Texas and LaVerne Graves of McKinney, Texas; brother-in-law, Nick Crosswhite of Abilene, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two infant sons, sons, Teddy Crosswhite and Keith Crosswhite, grandson, Chase Crosswhite, granddaughter, Jamy Crosswhite, sister, Esther Evans, brother, J. T. Luco, and daughter-in-law, Cheryl Crosswhite.

A family graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 1, 2017, at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas.  A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 1, 2017 at First Christian Church in McKinney, Texas.  The family will receive friends during a visitation from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., Thursday evening at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen.

Honorary pallbearers are grandsons, Lance Matthews, Zak Anderson, Erich Crosswhite, Casey Anderson, Caleb Crosswhite.
