IN LOVING MEMORY

Dorothy Jean Pate

Aug 27 1927 - Aug 08 2022

Dorothy Jean Pate entered her eternal resting place on August 8, 2022. She was born in Dallas, Texas on August 27,1927. Dorothy accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of 12, so we know  she's in heaven, celebrating  with those loved ones we miss so dearly. She attended Tech High School in Dallas and shortly out of high school she married Charley Jack Pate Sr. A relationship that endured many great years, as they were able to celebrate 50 years of marriage together. Dorothy had a devotion that extended beyond that of her marriage. Her lifelong career at Texas Instruments ended after 30 years of faithful service. After her retirement she decided the country life suited her best and moved to Celeste, Texas.   She loved spending time with her family who adored her greatly.  Her first grandson was unable to pronounce grandma, so she affectionately became known to all of us as Gan Gan. Gan Gan cherished her grandkids and wanted to spend time with each of them individually. Every third week one grandkid would go to her house and spend the weekend with her, creating their own wonderful memories.  Her favorite past times were tending to her roses, gardening, and spending the day shopping. She always had a little dog by her side that would get to go on car rides and get their own ice cream cone. The holidays were always special because she would get to have all her family together at once. On Christmas morning usually around 3 am she gathered her trusty wooden spoon and her favorite pot and went about the house yelling “Merry Christmas” then arriving at your bedside to say, “oh I’m sorry did I wake you”. Holiday feasts showed off the talent she had at cooking many amazing dishes. There are too many good things to list, but homemade yeast rolls, macaroni and cheese, goulash, and glazed ham topped with cherries, pineapples and cloves, were just a few of her specialties. On occasion, she would try to manage too many things at once and some of that good food got a little burnt. No worries though, her son Jackie loved the burnt food and still does to this day.  I think maybe sometimes she did that just for him. Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her. We love her dearly and will miss her, but knowing she is with the Lord will bring comfort to our hearts

She is survived by her son, Jack Pate; daughter in law, Beverly Pate of Wylie, Texas; grandsons, Michael Chester and wife, Kim Chester, of Nashville, Tennessee and Chris Chester of Celeste, Texas; granddaughter, Amy Kirkpatrick of Wylie, Texas; grandson, Todd Pate of Granbury, Texas; great granddaughters, Amber Kirkpatrick of Lake Dallas, TX; and Maddie Maxcy of Wylie, TX

She is preceded in death by her husband, Charley Pate Sr.; mother, Catherine Davis, father, Velma Davis; daughter, Charlene Loving; and son in law, Bobby Loving.
