On Wednesday, August 23, 1944, Doris Jackson was born in Nitta Yuma, Mississippi, to Olevia Chambers and Robert Hunt. She was the second of ten children. Doris lived in Mississippi for most of her youth until she moved to Chicago after graduating from Leland High School. She eventually met Thomas Jackson and the rest is history. They had one child and were together for more than fifty years.
Doris was always a devoted Christian, and she continued her service to God, becoming the family matriarch. Her prayers and quiet confidence were an inspiration to all who encountered her. She was a counselor, friend, and a calmer with her family and friends. Her legacy will always be the pillar of faith for her family and friends. Her son referred to her as “Mother,” as she was a mother to more than just her only son. Doris studied God’s word morning, noon, and night, and she never strayed from her core belief in Our Lord Jesus Christ. She passed this mindset down to her son and family, and she shared her biblical journey with her husband.
In 2000, Doris retired from more than thirty years of service at Montgomery Wards. In 2006, she chose to move to Dallas, Texas, supported by her husband, to be close to her grandchildren and son. She was a devoted grandmother to her four grandchildren and a fabulous “Mother” to her daughter-in-law. She was the glue that held the family together, and she ensured every holiday was filled with love and fantastic cooking skills. She enjoyed gardening and watching her family grow into adulthood.
Mrs. Doris Jackson transitioned from this life to eternal life on Easter Sunday, April 17, at 2:17 p.m., surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Olevia Chambers and Robert Hunt; sister, Marie Coleman; and brother, Carl Chambers.
