Doris was born in Farmersville, Texas on March 3, 1931. She graduated from Farmersville High School. She married Jack Gandy from Talco, Texas and they had four children. Jack was tragically killed in an auto accident in 1955. Doris married Davey Lee Wyont on August 29, 1958. They moved to Japan, where Dave served in the Air Force and returned to the States in 1961. After military retirement, they settled in Deer Park, Texas in 1967.
Doris had a varied work career. She owned her own custom drapery business, she was a very successful World Gift distributor, she waitressed many times in her life, raised rabbits and chinchillas, and she worked at Tenneco, where she drove a fork lift, filled and moved 50 pound bags of PVC pellets. Her strength and work ethic amazed all the men she worked with. After her retirement from Tenneco they moved to an acreage in Normangee, Texas where she owned a craft store and sold items she made herself.
Doris was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star for most of her adult life, serving in several positions, including Worthy Matron. Her love and involvement in Eastern Star is what led her to live the last four years of her life in the Texas Masonic Retirement Center in Arlington, Texas.
Doris passed away at Arlington Memorial Hospital on Sunday, March 12, 2017, surrounded by her family.
She is survived by her sister Sue Wilkerson and husband Walt, her brother Gerald Howard and wife Betty; her children David Wyont and wife Vicki, Carla Johnson, Mac Wyont and wife Karen; her daughter-in-law Blanche Wyont; her grandchildren Billy Jack McCurley and wife Wendy, Bianca Edwards and husband Blake, Michael Wyont and wife Hali, Macy Patrick, Megan Black and husband Cory, Shannon McKnight, Darla Johnson, Justin Barnes and wife Tracy, Ronnie Wyont, Austin Wyont and wife Addie; her great grandchildren Nolan Wyont, Brooke Patrick, Walker Patrick, Zoey Lewis, Laney Black, Hunter Payne, Jackson Barnes, Joshua Barnes; many other family members and a great number of friends.
Doris Jean Wyont is preceded in death by her parents Mahaley Shelton Howard and Alden Howard, her first husband and her children’s father Jack Gandy, her husband Dave Wyont, and her oldest son Darrell Wyont.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hurst’s Fielder Baker Funeral Home in Farmersville, Texas.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Hurst’s Fielder Baker Funeral Home. Pastor Danny Kilcoyne will officiate. Burial will follow in I. O. O. F. Cemetery in Farmersville, Texas.
