Doris T. Culberson

Doris Culberson of Prosper, Texas passed away unexpectedly on October 27, 2019 in Venice, Italy at the age of 79.  She was born on April 2, 1940 to Curtis Parks and Annie Nunn Teague in Liberty, North Carolina, where she grew up and graduated from Liberty High School in 1958.  She married Frank Culberson on June 5, 1960.  After they married, Doris and Frank moved to Houston, where they lived until 2013 when they moved to Prosper to be closer to family.  Doris attended Greensboro College for 2 years prior to marrying Frank.  She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Houston in 1962.  Doris worked as a 7th grade English teacher before raising her daughters.  Doris was a godly woman who loved the Lord.  She attended and was extremely active in First Presbyterian and Grace Presbyterian Churches for 50 years in the Houston area. After she moved to Prosper, she joined Cottonwood Creek Church.

Doris was an avid reader, a wonderful cook and loved gardening, especially flowers.  She enjoyed golf and achieved the enviable feat of making 4 holes-in-one. She traveled extensively and visited all 50 states and more than 30 foreign countries.  She especially cherished spending time with her grandkids, grandpets and extended family.  Doris loved life and always had laughter in her heart.  She never met a stranger, was kind to others, humble and extremely generous.

Doris is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Frank Culberson of Prosper, Texas; daughters, Kim Fraley and husband, Larry also of Prosper, and Kristi Butler and husband, Terry of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Bryant Butler, Sheldon Fraley and Lauren Fraley; sisters, Nathalia Carr of Land O’ Lakes, Florida and Brenda Ellington and husband, Tom of Elon, North Carolina plus a host of other loving family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Faye Brown.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.  Interment will follow at Ridgeview West Memorial Park in Frisco, Texas.  The family will receive friends during a visitation on Friday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen.

Memorial donations may be made in Doris’ memory to Habitat for Humanity.
