IN LOVING MEMORY

Doris Jean Gant Moore

Jun 26 1927 - Sep 30 2026

Doris Jean Gant Moore, of McKinney, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2026, surrounded by her family, at the age of 99. She was born on June 26, 1927, in Nevada, Texas, to Virgie Olene Rickman Smith and Van Nicholson Smith.

Doris attended church and school in Nevada before her family moved to Farmersville, where she graduated from Farmersville High School in 1944. She went on to attend North Texas State Teachers College in Denton, Texas, and later taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Winningkoff, Texas. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Clyde Gant, and they were married on July 23, 1947. Together, they raised two daughters, Beverly Jan and Karen Elaine, and shared 52 wonderful years of marriage.

Doris was a devoted Christian woman whose faith was at the center of her life. She faithfully taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir, and served on a mission trip to Rio De Janeiro. Her love for the Lord was evident in the way she lived, loved, and cared for others. Following Clyde’s passing, Doris later found love again and married Horace Moore. After 15 years of marriage, she was widowed once more.

Above all, Doris cherished her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of many. She especially enjoyed playing games and treasured every opportunity to gather with family and loved ones. Throughout her remarkable 99 years, Doris created a lifetime of beautiful memories, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, and devotion that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Doris is survived by her daughters, Beverly Jan Archer and husband, Lee, of Pasadena, Texas, and Karen Elaine Carter and husband, Harold, of Little Elm, Texas; six grandchildren, Beverly Chandler, Jessica Davlin, Brandon Gant, Christopher Burleson, Chrissy Smith, and Sherry Gant; her sister, Linda Hess; 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other loving family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Clyde Gant and Horace Moore; her sister, Rheda Davis; and her parents, Virgie and Van Smith.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2026, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
