Doris Elaine Scott Bumpus, age 84, of Frisco, Texas, passed away May 8, 2024. Doris was born July 26, 1939, in Plainview, Texas, to Joe Don and Elizabeth Odean (Byrd) Scott. She married Ronald Gene ‘Ronnie’ Bumpus on December 30, 1958.
Doris graduated from Plainview High School and attended the University of Texas. She and Ronnie lived in Austin, where their daughter, Karen, was born. They moved to Dallas after graduation and lived in Midland, and Houston as well. They enjoyed many vacations and family times in Port Aransas and at Possum Kingdom Lake. Puerto Vallarta, Mexico was her favorite vacation spot and she traveled there with friends many times.
Doris was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and was a life long member. She enjoyed many years showing and raising horses with the AMHA. She was an amateur artist and an avid reader.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen King and husband, Glyn of Frisco, Texas; grandson, Ryan King and wife, Darla of Santa Clarita, California and granddaughter Glynna Jones and husband, Dr. Zach Jones of Frisco; and great-grandchildren, Logan and Ella King and Travis, Austin, and Charlie Jones.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Don and Odean Scott and husband, Ronnie Bumpus.
A private family memorial is planned at Red Hill Cemetery near Athens, Texas at a later date.
