She was born on October 23, 1938, the third of nine children born to Garvin Fallen and Anita (Snider) Fallen in Sulphur City, Arkansas. Doris Ann was a graduate of Elkins High School in Elkins, Arkansas. After graduating, she attended the University of Arkansas for one year on scholarship. Doris Ann relocated to Dallas where she worked fulltime for the Dallas Independent School District and part time as a restaurant hostess so that she could send money home to help her parents. After living briefly in Memphis and Chicago, they settled down in Manlius, New York to raise their children surrounded by a lifetime of good friends and neighbors.
Growing up on a farm and helping to raise some of her siblings, helped in creating her nurturing quality, thriftiness and strong work ethic. Along with her devotion to her family, she loved to spend time in her yard and gardens. She also enjoyed volunteer work and was active in church, Home Bureau group, Cross Stitch group, Bridge Club, Cub Scout Den Mother, two years as President of the STPA (Student Teacher Parent Association) and luncheon groups with her girlfriends. Doris Ann was full of southern charm, infectious positivity and an uncanny cheerfulness. She was always excited to see you, happy to lend a hand and ready to lift your spirits. She was loved and appreciated by all of her children’s friends too.
