Dora Mae graduated from Forest Avenue High School and went to Oakland and Tanner Church of Christ. Frank Scoggins was her only boyfriend and they had their first date when she was 15 years old. Frank called Dora Mae and said, “I’m supposed to have a date with you tonight, aren’t I?” She said yes and he replied, “Well, get your pigtails down and I’ll pick you up at 7:00 p.m.” They played miniature golf. Frank lived down the street from Dora Mae and next to her best friend, Pauline.

Dora Mae married Frank Jimison Scoggins, Jr. on February 12, 1949 at the Eastside Church of Christ in Dallas, Texas by Brother Joe Malone. They wanted to get married on Valentine’s Day but they had to wait two days until the weekend since they had to work.

After her kids were grown, she went back to college and earned an associate degree from Eastfield College and went to University of Texas at Dallas for a while and finished at Amber University. She loved pink, classical music, children’s literature, Frank Sinatra, Elvis, Shirley Temple, Winnie-the-Pooh, and her grandchildren. Dora Mae’s favorite movies were Gone with the Wind and The Wizard of Oz and she loved musicals.

Dora Mae is survived by her son, Gary Dean Scoggins and wife, Debra of Wolfe City, Texas; daughter-in-law, Kathy Scoggins of Nevada, Texas; grandchildren, Kevin and wife, Cindy, Amy and husband, Clay, Stephanie and husband, Jason, Heather, J.D. and wife, Amanda, Blake, and Issac and wife, Ashley; and great-grandchildren, Lewis, Quinn, Connor, Corbin, Zoe, Corey, Hayley, Summer, Emilee, and Melody.
