Donald Leroy (Papa) Hicks passed away August 2, 2023 in Plano, Texas at the age of 70. He was born August 27, 1952 to Leroy and Lois Hicks in Spartanburg, SC. Don married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Bivins on December 20, 1975 in Jonesboro, Georgia.
Don was faithful to attend the Harvest Baptist Church in Allen, Texas with his wife Barbara (Mimi).
Don is survived by his wife, Barbara Hicks of Allen, Texas; daughter, Teri Leake and son-in-law, Pastor J.D. Leake of Anna, Texas; daughter, Pamela Daniels of Carrollton, Texas; and grandchildren, Mackenzie, Christopher, Hannah, and Kassidee Leake of Anna, Texas; sister, Dr. Cheryl Hicks, MD of The Villages, Florida, nephew, Jordan Hicks of Albuquerque, New Mexico; as well as numerous other loving family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Lois Hicks of Sarasota, Florida; brother, Dr. Gregory Hicks, MD of Sarasota, Florida; and son, Brian Hicks of The Colony, Texas.
Don was a devoted husband to Barbara his loving wife of nearly 48 years, and he was always a faithful provider for his family’s every need and a lot of their wants too. Don really enjoyed watching old western movies, Dallas Cowboys football, and of course A Christmas Story. Some of Don’s all-time favorite songs include Beulah Land, The Lighthouse, and Glory to His Name! Don really loved Spaghetti, refrigerated Hershey Kisses, and Blue Bell Great Divide ice cream with chocolate syrup on top. Throughout his career as an Engineer, Don had many opportunities to travel to various places including Japan, and was very instrumental in creating and implementing multiple electronic designs in a wide scope of technology through various avenues ranging from military arsenal, to television technology and everything in between. Don held numerous degrees, certifications, and awards of recognition for his invaluable contributions into the electronics engineering industry.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 11, 2023 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas. Pastor J.D. Leake will be officiating. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Thursday evening August 10, 2023 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
