Donald Franklin Kirkland of Murphy, Texas passed away August 17, 2020 at the age of 88. He was born on November 21, 1931 to Wade H. Kirkland and Ressie (Selman) Kirkland in Higginson, Arkansas. Don was a 1949 graduate of Detroit High School in Detroit, Texas. After graduation, he joined and served his country proudly in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Don worked for Hooker Chemical Company before starting his own company, Kirkland Sales in Richardson, Texas. After selling his company, he purchased a Guest Ranch in Mancos, Colorado before moving back to Texas where Don retired to farming and ranching. Don’s cows were his obsession, but he loved playing golf too. Don was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Dallas, #760.
He is survived by his sons, David Kirkland and wife, Dewana of Parker, Texas, Paul Kirkland and wife, Tammie of Lucas, Texas, and Philip Kirkland and wife, Wanda of Princeton, Texas; grandchildren, Amber, Lindsey, Jacob, and Austin; great-grandchild, Timothy Daxton; and a host of other loving family members and friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Wade and Ressie Kirkland; three brothers; a sister; and grandchildren, William Wayne Kirkland and Lauren Brooke Holt.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 22, 2020 Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas, and will also be live streamed on the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Facebook page and a recorded video will be available following the funeral service on Don’s obituary page. Interment is to follow at Lakeview Cemetery, 2343 Lake Road, Lavon, Texas
In support of our local, state, and federal govt including CDC directives and to protect the physical health, safety and well-being of our community, only a limited number of guests will be allowed to attend the Funeral Service.
However, when the maximum number of guests are reached, those who would like to honor Don and show their support to his family may remain at the funeral home in your vehicle, where you can watch the live streamed service on your personal device (laptop, tablet or smartphone) or listen through a designated FM radio channel.
