Don L. Hild passed away on October 3, 2023, at the age of 86 in McKinney, Texas. He was born March 8, 1937, to Kenneth Hild and Maxine (Testerman) Hild in Parsons, Kansas.
Don served in the U.S. Air Force before beginning his 40-year career as a technician for AT&T. He married Sandra Greek on June 7, 1969, in McKinney, Texas. He loved his family more than anything, including his church family at Community North Baptist of McKinney, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, sound technician, and custodian for many years.
Don was quiet, thoughtful, and always considerate of others. A spiteful word or harsh tone never crossed his lips. He spoke softly, kindly, and rarely. He enjoyed being at home much more than any sort of travel and could always be found improving and repairing items around the house. At home he was known as “Mr. Fix-It,” because he could fix absolutely anything and everything. Don enjoyed working puzzles of all kinds, from jigsaw to crossword. But above all else, Don was infallibly and unapologetically dedicated to serving the Lord, supporting the church, and helping everyone blessed to have known him.
Don is survived by his wife, Sandra Hild of McKinney, Texas; daughter, Amy Hileman and husband, Aaron of Mountain View, Oklahoma; grandsons, Hayden and Colton Hileman, both of Mountain View, Oklahoma; sister, Reba Borovicka of Republic, Missouri; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Bryson of Iola, Kansas, and brother, Kenneth Hild of Edmond, Oklahoma. Also preceding him in death was a sister, Louisa, who died in infancy.
A funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Community North Baptist Church 2500 Community Ave, McKinney, Texas 75071. Interment will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery Rhea Mills, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
