Donald Leon Cook

Donald Leon Cook, age 77, of McKinney, Texas passed away April 27, 2013. He was born March 26, 1936 in Pampa, Texas to Leon M. and June (Converse) Cook.

Donald grew up in Pampa, where he graduated from high school. He received his B.S. in Chemistry from McMurry College in Abilene and he received his master’s degree from Texas Tech. During his college days he met and married Lou A. Smith. They were married on April 4, 1958 in Hamby, Texas. Don was called to serve his county during the Korean Conflict, where he proudly served in the United States Army. Don worked as a chemist at Anderson Clayton in Richardson. Afterward Don and his family moved to Tyler, where he worked for Tyler Pipe and LaGoria Petroleum. Don served as a Scout Master in Richardson for 10 years and he was a Senior Scout Leader in Tyler for many years. He was very active in the church choir. Don served as a Free Mason for much of his life. He was an avid woodworker, and loved playing golf. He will be missed by all who knew him and loved him.

He is survived by his wife, Lou A. Cook of McKinney, Texas; daughter, Donna Kelley and husband, David of Allen, Texas; granddaughter, Micah Kelley of McKinney, Texas; grandsons, Quentin and Bret Kelley both of Allen, Texas; sisters-in-law, Florine Smith of Hamby, Texas and Recia Clemmer of Midland, Texas; brother-in-law, Grady Smith of Granbury, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and June Cook; son, Terrell Cook; sisters, Shirle Hoover and Wanda McIver.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 3, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church, McKinney, Texas with Dr. Tommy Brumet officiating.
